The Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) conducts an annual audit of a selected percentage of registrants to ensure compliance with Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) requirements. All registrants are responsible for maintaining a record of their annual CVE activities, which must be kept for a minimum of 5 years, or 7 years if claiming cumulative CVE credits. These records must be readily available for submission to the Council during an audit. A registrant’s annual CVE record is self-managed and is not maintained or monitored by the Council.

Registrants selected for audit will be required to submit evidence of their CVE compliance for the specified audit period. This may include CVE record cards, certificates of attendance at approved CVE courses, documentary evidence of presentations or meetings, and other supporting documentation. Failure to comply with CVE requirements may result in further investigation, and the registrant could be asked to undertake a prescribed CVE program or face an inquiry into their fitness to practise. The audit process is an important part of ensuring that all registrants maintain the necessary standards for professional competence.
