There will be a significant change to the membership of the Council as many Members have completed their two terms of office, each of four years duration. The Veterinary Council of Ireland is made up of 19 members who are either elected for subsequent appointment by the Minister or appointed by the Minister.
The term of office of 15 current members (six elected and appointed and nine appointed) is due to expire on 31 December 2017. A further four registered veterinary practitioners will remain in office until their period of office expires on 31 December 2019. There will be an election in Autumn 2017 to choose five registered veterinary practitioners and one veterinary nurse for subsequent appointment by the Minister for a term of office to commence on 1 January 2018.
